Non-Surgical Soft Tissue Management

A non-surgical approach to treating early periodontal disease is referred to as scaling and root planning, which is defined as a debridement of the root surfaces of bacteria and bacterial by-products which cause localized inflammation.

Scaling and root planning is usually preformed by the hygienistwith local anesthesia if necessary. Additionally, medicaments may be used to further promote healing of the soft tissue. Explicit home care instructions are also reviewed with the patient.
